"Sharmini is a dedicated music teacher who inspired me to pursue studies in music and eventually, both performing and teaching careers. I began my music studies with Sharmini, and studied piano, voice and music theory with Sharmini throughout secondary school which prepared me very well for my undergraduate degree in Voice performance at Memorial University's School of Music. I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Voice as well as a Diploma of Education (music) from McGill University.
I presently live in Brussels, Belgium, teach music part-time at the British School of Brussels, conduct four choirs, give private singing lessons and am finishing a Master's in Choral Conducting. I sang as a professional chorister, and also as a soloist in many small ensembles in Canada, and have sung professionally with various companies and ensembles throughout Europe.
If it was not for Sharmini's encouragement, passion for teaching and technical skills, I would not have chosen music as a career path. It is not an easy path yet I have become a passionate educator, conductor and performer, and I owe much of that to my musical beginnings with Sharmini." - Penni Clarke, student

“…..We’ve got a fantastic staff here. They are all great teachers, but I guess the most influential is our music teacher….Sharmini Arulanandam. She has that rare gift of making it exciting for children to learn......” – Frank Clarke (retired school Principal): MUN magazine publication ‘Decks Awash’, vol. 09, no. 06.

“....The chorus has reached new limits….such wonderful melodious sounds. Wow! You have made the dream a reality for so many of the children. Their parents and your colleagues know this as well” – Debra Richardson, retired school Principal, PDSB

“........I have had several years experience of the best piano accompanists of Australia....gave a recital of 11 songs and arias… it quickly became apparent to me, that (Sharmini) possesses the true accompanist’s instinct for assessing the correct tempo and mood of a piece, and the essential ability to play with an eye and ear on the singer…..She gave a most competent performance at the recital.” – Richard Curtin, Winner, Pan Pacific Opera Audition Finals, 1973

“You took our hands

 You opened our minds,

You touched our hearts”  -  Omar Musleh, student
