Welcome to Sharmini's Music Studio!
Study Piano, Flute, Voice and Recorder with a highly accredited and experienced teacher. All ages and levels are welcome.
Sharmini Arulanandam (BMus, AMusA, FTCL, LRSM, LTCL) has decades of teaching experience and a proven record of success as a private music teacher and music teacher with the Peel District School Board, Avalon North Integrated School Board, and the London Borough of Barking, England. Described as a music educator who has “made the dream a reality for so many of the children,” and as “an amazing teacher with a love for music which resonates in every lesson,” Sharmini has been nurturing generations of musicians and music lovers. A number of her students have gone on to become professional musicians and music educators. Here's what a past student of Sharmini's has to say:
“My Music career began with private lessons in voice from Sharmini when I was nine years old and flute a few years later. Her musical knowledge is outstanding and her way of challenging and instilling a love for music in her students is quite amazing. As a direct result of her teaching, I gained the technical ability in flute needed in order to be recommended for provincial finals with my Kiwanis Festival performance and the skills needed to be accepted into Memorial University's School of Music as a voice major. I am now a music teacher in the public school setting and reflect often on Sharmini's teaching, many years later, to help guide me in my own teaching career. After the many voice teachers, band directors, choral directors and professors that I have had since my time with Sharmini, she remains the single greatest influence on my music career and I consider myself extremely lucky and grateful to have had the opportunity to study music with her.”

Sharmini’s private students on piano, flute and voice, and her recorder ensembles, choirs, choral ensembles, concert bands and stage bands have all been frequent award winners at Kiwanis Music Festivals in Toronto, St John’s and Carbonear, and at the Peel Music Festival in Mississauga. Individual private students and Concert Band and Stage Bands have gone on to compete at Provincial Music Festivals. Her Concert Bands were successful as the Provincial Winner and Runner-up for Ontario, and her choir as Provincial Winner representing Newfoundland at National Competition.
A note from Sharmini:
I believe that music is a powerful, creative and expressive tool and a means towards effective communication. It is a language, after all.
In my teaching, I encourage the musical growth/progress and musical independence of my students by establishing a firm technical and musical foundation on their instruments. Beauty of tone and interpretative details are given special attention. This supports my ultimate goal as a teacher: to nurture a love for music and the instrument. Love follows where beauty is experienced!
